R.E. CAREY

du Bois du Tôt

It’s in 1979 that Joël bought his first purebred dog ... not a Belgian, but a German Shepherd. But his attention is quickly appealed and his interest caught by the Tervueren. After a long while of reflection, studying all the lines, he decides to book a puppy at “Bois du Tôt”. He met Dr SURGET for the first time in 1985, and a real, true and deep friendship is quickly growing between them. Then, they made the common decision to pick a male from the Tiakie x Briska combination. This dog will be inbred on the couple “Olrick x Mirbelle” and will carry the lines of Maja .... and his name is CAREY. Thank to his rich genetical pool, and even if he was not a "winner dog", CAREY becomes the Best Producer for 4 years in a row, scoring the highest points ever. He can be found in a large majority of pedigrees, generations after generations, and has sired +/- 350 offsprings, and more than 40 s.r..

While acquiring CAREY, Joël creates his own kennel, “Le Clos de Jochnake”, Recommended kennel by the S.C.C. (French Kennel Club). All the foundations dogs are from Bois du Tôt, first breedings with R.e. ELDA du Bois du Tôt, then with R.E. GEZEL du Bois du Tôt.

From ELDA : JORAM multi Champion, living in Italy, and unfortunately not used a lot. Already quite old, he has sired a beautiful litter in Holland (Van Moned). HAÏKAL, a grey powerful bitch, who placed 3 times at the french National, being RCAC one time. Bred to Hades du Bois du Tôt, HAÏKAL produced JINA who also was RCAC at the french National. ISAURA, CAC at the french Championships, dam of s.r. JANIS des Terres d'Isaura (Ares x Isaura), who has been the last addition at "Le Clos de Jochnake" and who bred to JORN produced NIRVANA Winner of the Dutch National in 2000, and Reserve at the French National the same year..

From GEZEL : JORN, probably the best son of Foehn, the sire of two wonderful bitches, LOLITA, UKC Gd Champion, and NIRVANA.

During more than 10 years, the breeding program is planned in a very close partnership between Yves and Joël, and under both kennel names.

It’s in 1984 that Sophie bought her first Belgian, VIKING des Pinsardies. He was not a show quality dog but gave her this passionned love for the breed. attended her first national in 1984 and she then started to read and study a lot about the breed . Unfortunately, for professional reasons, she was to wait till 92 to purchase her second dog, s.r. HANS du Soleil d’Automne, a tall complete dog, grand son of SOCRATE du Sart des Bois who caught her eyes 8 years earlier, HANS gained his s.r. title in 94. Going from shows to shows every week end, her interest for breeding is growing, and considering the Bois du Tôt lines, but being “fidèle” to “Le Soleil d’Automne” kennel, she bought in 93 her first bitch ITCHY du Soleil d’Automne, daughter of Gayal du Bois du Tôt.

Life is life, and fate is part of it... Joël and Sophie got married ... and at this time ... both wished to have their own kennel name. But Yves asked them to join “Bois du Tôt” and to combine the efforts and the sensibility of each one, and to go on with Bois du Tôt lines as long as possible ... the partnerships was done and officially registered in 95.

At this time the brood bitches were :

- R.E. DAPHNE du Castel d’Argences, daughter of ARES and R.E. Ch.VANILLE du Chemin des Dames. After long discussions, it was decided to breed her to CAREY in a way to combine the bloodlines of the two Bois du Tôt best stud dogs, Ares and Carey. This combination, repeated five times, produced not less than 12 s.r dogs, with very important dogs such as : the grey R.E. French Champion GIONO du Bois du Tôt, Best In Show at the French Specialty, his litter brother s.r. GAYAL, CAC Winner at the French Championship, RCAC at the French National Specialty, his litter sister RE GEZEL who made an excellent show career and who produced two nice litters at “Clos de Jochnake”.

From the first repeat , RE Am Ch. HADES, excellent stud dog here then putting his stamp in North America, the red bitch s.r. HEKLA, CAC Winner at the French Specialty, mother of UKC Ch. OMEGA du Bois du Tôt.

From the second repeat, s.r. Swiss Ch. JARRY and s.r. JANUS, and the bitches, the famous and well known s.r. JOCONDE, CAC Winner at the French Specialty and exported to Norway at Fakaiser’s kennel, s.r. JIJEL who has produced in Holland, JINA and JIXI who stayed in France and both s.r. titled.

From the third repeat, the beautiful red bitch s.r. LIA, Best Working Class dog at the French Specialty, and her sister s.r.LENORE who unfortunately was not shown a lot.

From the last litter (bred after Yves' death), two dogs being BdT ambassadors in foreign countries, N’OUBLIE PAS, exported to US by Pat Morgan, Winjammer kennel, American Champion, titled in both Agility and herding, and s.r. NORIS who joined his sister JOCONDE in Norway.

- sr IZY du Crépuscule des Loups (R.E. CAREY du Bois du Tôt x R.E. Ch. FIDJI du Castel d’Argences) born from an interesting IV breeding, Fidji being the black sister of Daphné from the repeat. IZY was a wonderful brood bitch. Bred to Re FEMTO du Bois du Tôt, she has produced sr MYRTE du Bois du Tôt, CAC at the french Championships, MUREX, a tall and elegant male who was not shown, MOON who was kept at Bois du Tôt, then exported to States, but unfortunately, due to health problems, none of them had offsprings. A great loss in the breeding program.

Bred twice to GIONO, IZY produced several excellent dogs, the most influent beeing p.E. NOELLE, Junior Winner and Winner in Amsterdam, one of the bitches of the dutch kennel van't Groenveld.

For her last litter, IZY was bred to Giono's son, LHASSA du Clos de Jochnake, who was carrying back the lines of R.e. ELDA, and she gave us a wonderful litter, RENO, ROXIE, and RIVKA. ROXIE, CAC winner at the French Championships , is a current brood bitch at Bois du Tôt and is now Reproductrice d'Elite with two litters sired by XORAN Van de Hoge Laer. Her sister RIVKA, back at BdT for a while, has already produced a still young but promising litter with High Clearings Apollo.

- s.r. HEKLA du Bois du Tôt (R.E. CAREY du Bois du Tôt x R.E. DAPHNE du Castel d’Argences), who produced only 2 litters in France, the one with Jaïrouck de la Fureur du Crépuscule gave the grey male OMEGA exported to USA by Pat Morgan and is UKC champion.

- ITCHY du Soleil d'Automne (sr GAYAL du Bois du Tôt x sr BEAUTY du Soleil d'Automne), has been bred twice. First litter, with sr JORN du Clos de Jochnake, she produced MYIA, one of the foundation bitches of l'Arbrochiens kennel. For her 2nd litter (and it was the last litter bred with Yves), she was bred to RE HADES du Bois du Tôt, none of the dogs were conformation champions, but p.E and Elite A NASH, imported by Van't Groenveld kennel, has sired +/- 35 litters with great success and has offsprings all over Europe.

- sr UKC Gd Ch. LOLITA du Clos de Jochnake (s.r. JORN du Clos de Jochnake x s.r. HAIKAL du Clos de Jochnake), who had her first litter in 98, dam of a grey bitch OBSESSION, exported to Australia who won BOB and Junior in Show at her second outing overthere. Lolita was then exported to States, living with our friend Laurie, were she produced for Topline’s kennel. She finished her UKC Grand Championships. Her son, Ch. Topline's Twist at BdT was winner dog at the ABTC National.

Then, a short time after Yves' death, we added :

- NIRVANA du Clos de Jochnake (s.r. JORN du Clos de Jochnake x s.r. JANIS des Terres d’Isaura), ... one of the most titled bitch we had (CAC at the dutch Special, RCAC at the French Special), unfortunately did not turn out to be the great producer that we expected. She had only one litter bred to Fakaiser's Ajax d'Acteur. We tried to breed her three times to XORAN Van de Hoge Laer, but it never took well .... empty, or c-section, so, with heavy hearts and very frustrated, we decided to retire her from our breeding program, and then have nothing from her to go on with these lines.

- Fakaiser’s Quartz d’ Quaresse (s.r. BROCCIO du Bois du Tôt x s.r. JOCONDE du Bois du Tôt), who unfortunately didn't produce either, except a small litter of 2, bred to XORAN. VINCE du Bois du Tôt, starting a show career, will be the only one.

In the last couple of years, Bois du Tôt has also decided to be involved in the groenendael variety and acquired its first black bitch, MONOÏ du Crépuscule des Loups, born from an inter variety breeding and carrying the Bois du Tôt Terv lines (Ares is her Grand Sire and Femto is her sire). MONOÏ was offered by Yves to Sophie as a wedding gift! Bred to RE Fr. Ch.GYLSON de la Fureur du Crépuscule, she produced a large litter from which we have the pick female s.r. OHLALA du Bois du Tôt , creating with her a pool based on our Tervueren lines. From this combination was also born ONE O ONE, exported to States, Best male at the UBSDA National in 2003, and OARES, Reproductrice d'Elite for the french kennel "Les Loups de la Forêt Sacrée".

It is impossible to detail the whole breeding program for almost 40 years, this is a short resume of BdT history.

Our goal is to persevere in the way established by Yves who unfortunately passed away precociously, in the respect of his breeding philosophy and always guided by his memory. it’s for sure a heavy responsability, but a great privilege, to try to follow his path.... leaded by the passion of the typey, healthy and sound tempered Belgians, hoping to still find Bois du Tôt in the upcoming pedigrees as he wished. it’s the best tribute we could pay to him.

Our present and future brood bitches are all going back to BdT foundations and bloodlines :

For the Tervs, ROXIE and RIVKA du BdT (Lhassa x Izy), ULKANE (Xoran x Roxie),

BLING-BLING (Apollo x Rivka), ant the newly addition BE-BOP du Périgord (York x Oranie), going back to Ares and Carey by the way of Iana and Dorah.

For the Groenendaels, OHLALA du BdT (Gylson x Monoï), her terv daughter UB (Xoran x Ohlala), and AZZURA (Ramses x Ohlala)
